Review || Collection Speedy Highlighter in Pearly Sheen

Review || Collection Speedy Highlighter in Pearly Sheen

I love a good cream highlighter. I have used Benefit's High Beam in the past along with the Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator and have loved both so when I saw the Collection Speedy Highlighter in Pearly Sheen was part of one of the Boots 3 for 2 offers, I knew I had to give it a go. I bought this on a bit of a whim as I hadn't heard anything about it but I must admit I am so glad I did as it has become part of my daily routine. This product almost made it into my 2015 favourites but I thought that since I had only had it for a few months it wasn't really a favourite for 2015 but maybe it will make next years favourites.

The formula of this is a little different to any of the other cream highlighters I have ever used before because it isn't as creamy or soft as most, but I have never used a stick highlighter before. it seems when you first apply it that you are going to have to apply a lot of pressure to get any of the product on your face but you really don't. A little goes a long way as you only have to sweep this over your skin and it gives you this gorgeous sheen. I tend to apply this to most of the high points of my face like my cheekbones, cupids bow, and below my eyebrows.

It has pretty good lasting power too which is great as it means you don't have to reapply it throughout the day, which is great for me as I always forget to do touch-ups. The colour is also gorgeous and works really well for my paler skin as it is slightly pink toned and looks relatively natural so works really well for daytime use and you can obviously amp it up a bit if you want to for the evenings. It also isn't glittery, just slightly shimmery which I love as I hate highlighters with chunks of glitter.

I think this is probably going to be one of those products I keep repurchasing as it is such a good highlighter and it is only £3.99 which is an absolute bargain!

Have you ever tried this highlighter before?

2015 Makeup Favourites

2015 Makeup Favourites

Like most other beauty bloggers I have been reflecting on my favourite makeup products from the past year and have put them all into one blog post, my 2015 favourites. I have some new finds along with some old favourites that might have appeared in last year's version, but nonetheless they were all products I reached for continuously over the past 12 months.

Let's start with face products. The Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue was a new product for me back in the summer and I have used it a lot over the past 6 months. It is a gorgeous dewy, tinted moisturiser product that has a very light coverage so is fantastic to use if you need your skin to look a bit more awake without the coverage. Having said that, you can build the coverage up if necessary without it looking like you have a lot of makeup on. The shade is also a really good match for me which is great as so many tinted moisturisers are too dark for me.

For concealer I have been reaching for the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer for covering spots and dark circles. I have a love-hate relationship with this product as sometimes the shade doesn't look right on my skin however for most of the past year the shade has worked for me. It rarely looks heavy on my skin, covers everything and lasts all day, as the name suggests.

Next up, powder. I love using the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural as it is lightweight and doesn't completely mattify my skin so if I am using something like the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue it remains dewy but allows me to control how shiny my skin looks.

I love bronzing my skin subtly so that my skin looks a bit healthier and to do this I have loved using the Sleek Face Contour Kit which also contains a really gorgeous highlighter which I use almost every day. They are both really long lasting and not too intense, so completely day appropriate which is great.

I have a love-hate relationship with my eyebrows but one product that can help make them look a bit better is the Sleek Eyebrow Stylist. It has a slightly waxy consistency so is easy to apply and it lasts pretty much all day. The shade is also a really good match for me as it is slightly red toned so looks better on me than grey toned products due to my red hair.

Earlier on in the year I picked up my first By Terry Ombre Blackstar and I will continue to purchase more. They have a beautiful, creamy texture which is really long lasting and the shade range is really good too, so there will be something for everyone.

I have two mascara favourites from last year, one new favourite and one old one. I will start with the old one, the Clinique High Impact Mascara. It is volumising and doesn't clump my lashes together or make them look spidery like so many other mascaras do. This one is my go to for when I don't want anything too dramatic, but for a more dramatic look I have been going for Benefit's Roller Lash. This mascara is similar to the Clinique one, only slightly more dramatic. I love using this one when I do a cat eye or a slightly more smokey eye as it makes the eyes stand out even more.

Finally lip products. Obviously MAC Lipsticks had to make the cut as I use them all of the time and I cannot fault them. I love the different formulas that they have and the range of colours is also fantastic. I also love using the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob for evening out my lip line, occasionally over lining my lips and using as a liner underneath other lipsticks. It is matte which makes it more long lasting than glossier finishes and the shade is perfect for using underneath lipsticks as well as using it on its own.

So there are my 2015 makeup favourites. What products did you love last year?

Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016 || Goals for 2016

2016, Happy New Year,
Image Source

Firstly, Happy New Year to you all! I can't believe 2015 is over already as it only feels like yesterday that we were saying goodbye to 2014 and looking forward to a new year ahead. I wanted to do a post today reflecting on the past year and setting some new goals for this coming year. I personally like setting goals for myself all year round, so New Year's Resolutions are something I like to think about as I like having a something to work for.

2015 was the year I passed my driving test which has been such an amazing thing for me as it has given me a bit more freedom and I don't have to rely on my parents to take me everywhere. I also went to Amsterdam, Paris, Spain and Austria last year so in terms of travel, I definitely did my fair share last year.

So onto this year, 2016. I wanted to set some new goals for the year and give myself something to aim for this year.
1. Blog as regularly as I can || I want to aim for 2 posts a week this year but I want to be realistic too and during my exams in June, things might go a bit quieter around these parts. But I feel 2 posts is enough without it being too much on top of my college work.
2. Try and stay more organised || Although I can be organised if I want to be I do have a habit of losing things and not keeping things organised and tidy. This year I want to try and keep my room more tidy, and my work more organised.
3. Continue to workout || Throughout 2015 I was a bit on and off with exercising, but this year I want to make it part of my routine. I always feel better and less stressed after a good workout so I think this year, with my exams coming up, exercise might be a good thing to continue,
4. Learn how to cook || As I am going to uni this year I think learning how to cook might be a good idea so that I don't only live off of pizza and chips. I got a few recipe books for Christmas and I am looking forward to using them this year and learning how to make something other than toast!
5. Instagram more || My Instagram is something I tend to neglect a lot. I want to improve my Instagram and post more frequently over the next year.

So, there are my goals for 2016. What are your resolutions for this year?

Things I Love About Christmas || Blogmas 2015

Image source
With Christmas rapidly approaching I thought that I should do a post on the reasons why I love Christmas. Everyday I am getting more and more excited for the big day and all of the festivities that come with it and I really wanted to share with you my favourite parts of this time of year.
1. Christmas Movies
Whether it is a kids Christmas film like Elf or a rom-com like Love Actually or The Holiday, I love sitting down in the evening with a mug of hot chocolate and watching a Christmas movie since what other time of the year is it socially acceptable to watch Christmas movies?
2. Decorations
If I had my own house the decorations would be up on December 1st, although my family disagree! I love any form of decorations, especially Christmas trees and fairy lights as they make me feel even more excited for Christmas and make your house look really pretty.
3. Christmas Songs
I am a Christmas song lover and as soon as it hits December I will be listening to Christmas songs almost exclusively as my choice of music. I personally prefer the old 70s and 80s classics over newer songs like Wham's Last Christmas, Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? and Wizzard's I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday and as soon as I hear them I am instantly in a more festive mood.
4. Christmas Sets
The beauty sets that come out around this time of year are an amazing way to try new products as you often get really good ideas. Not only that but they make really good Christmas presents for the people in your lives that are a little bit makeup obsessed. This is also a good time of year to stock up on some travel friendly minis as there are usually a lot of handy travel sets available now.
5. The Food
I am a big fan of Christmas food. The meal on the day itself and all of the extras that are enjoyed in the time running up to then. Some of my favourites are Christmas cookies, chocolate boxes (especially Heros) and Christmas themed sweets, because let's face it they taste so much better when they are shaped as a reindeer than when they are not.
6. The Presents
Both receiving and giving presents is fun and buying the presents is also something I enjoy doing. Although I find it quite difficult to find the perfect gift for some people, I enjoy going Christmas shopping as it is like guilt-free shopping which suits me perfectly!
7. The Atmosphere
Everyone is always in a much better mood during the weeks running up to Christmas and there seems to be a happier vibe around as everyone is getting excited for the big day.
8. Christmas Adverts
The John Lewis one is always a favourite of mine as they are always so cute and really amazing however many brands and shops have very unique and festive adverts at this time of year and it does make those boring advert breaks a bit more bearable when the adverts are Christmassy.

Those are some of my favourite things about Christmas. What are yours?

Winter Lipsticks || Blogmas 2015

As part of Blogmas I thought it would be a good time to do a post about my favourite lipsticks that I reach for during the winter months. Ranging from everyday nudes to darker berry shades I have all grounds covered for any winter appropriate lip shades.
Winter Lipsticks || Blogmas
Let's start with the nude shades. One of my more recent additions to my nude lipstick collection is Clinique's Pop Lip Colour in Nude Pop. This is a mixture between a pink and brown nude so makes the perfect everyday shade for this time of the year. I like the texture of this lipstick as well as it is not too matte or too glossy so lasts longer than a super glossy formula. For a more glossy version the Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in Proudly Naked is the one that I reach for. This is a very similar shade to the Clinique one but with a slightly different finish. The final nude shade is the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien. This is a slightly darker nude which I love to use in the evenings for a more dramatic nude look.

For darker more winter typical shades I also have three that I like reaching for at this time of the year. Firstly is the most pink berry shade, the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Crush. This is a great one if you don't want a very obvious coloured lip as you can have a really thin, light layer of it or you can really build it up for a stronger pigmentation. The Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry. This is a very dark lipstick with a very moisturising formula so it doesn't cling to dry patches. I love this lipstick but I find that it needs to be used with a lip liner and for that I love using the Topshop Lip Liner in Girl Bye. The colour is almost identical to the lipstick so I can get a really clean line which I don't without it. The lip liner is matte so it very long lasting and makes the lipstick last longer too.

What are your favourite winter lipsticks?

Winter Wonderland || Blogmas 2015

Last week, myself and my friends visited Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland, a festive Christmas market with ice skating and various different rides. I have been to Winter Wonderland once before and it definitely didn't disappoint this time either. If you like Christmas themed things, this place is definitely for you.
If you aren't in the Christmas spirit yet, a visit to Winter Wonderland will definitely put you in it. With Christmas themed market stalls offering a variety of possible gifts and every type of food you can think of on offer there is something for everyone.
After ice skating and devouring a duck and hoisin wrap (which was amazing FYI!) we headed over to the fair ground section, and to grab even more food (chips and Dutch pancakes to be exact!). Although I didn't go on any of the rides, if you are an adrenaline junkie then some of these rides will be perfect for you, although personally I preferred to keep both feet on the ground.

If you are in London and want to feel even more festive then I would highly recommend a visit to Winter Wonderland as it is such a good way to spend an evening in London.

Have you visited Winter Wonderland?

Skiing Beauty Essentials || Blogmas 2015

Something you may not know about me is that I am an avid skier and have been skiing since I was 4. However skiing is not the most glamorous occasion, with chapped lips, tangled hair and the potential of dry, sunburned skin. So today, I have decided to tell you about what I consider to be essentials for a skiing holiday. The only thing I haven't included as I didn't have one with me was a skiing SPF, which we usually buy when we arrive. Let's get into this.
Skiing Beauty Essentials || Blogmas
To deal with tangled and dry hair an leave in conditioner is the best product for the job. I personally love the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance because not only does it do an amazing job at rehydrating and de-tangling your hair but it also smells absolutely amazing. For skin, I still like to have a little bit of coverage but I really don't want something heavy or matte. The product I will be reaching for is the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue as it is quite hydrating, has a dewy finish and is really lightweight. To deal with my chapped lips I like to use a slightly heavier lip balm, like the Nuxe RĂªve de Miel Lip Balm as it is really moisturising and is the perfect product for post skiing lips. I get very dry skin under my eyes without the harsh conditions of skiing so an eye cream is even more necessary when I am skiing. I absolutely love the Simple Kind To Eyes Soothing Eye Balm as it is soothing, hydrating and cooling so great for puffy eyes. Finally is an intense moisturiser, my favourite being Clinique's Moisture Surge Extended Relief. It isn't too heavy so it doesn't break me out but it adds a tonne of hydration to my skin so hopefully it won't become to dry during my trip.
