All About Skincare: Part 2

Skincare Products

Skincare Products

Yesterdays post was all about my morning skincare routine and you've guessed it, today I am going to discuss my evening skincare routine, so lets get into this.

If I've been wearing makeup the first thing I do is remove my eye makeup using The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil to remove the majority of my eye makeup. I do end up looking a bit panda before washing this product off, but this is seriously the best thing for breaking down and removing eye makeup, especially on heavier makeup days.

To make sure all of my eye makeup is completely gone I then go in with The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Makeup Remover. A full review of these two products and one other eye makeup remover is going up next Sunday so keep your eyes peeled for that.

If it has been a particularly heavy face makeup day I use some face wipes (not pictured) such as the Simple Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes before going in with the Simple Kind To Skin Moisturising Facial Wash. This is exactly the same as in the mornings, I apply it to damp skin, apply in circular motions and then wash off. I also use the Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser as another way to ensure all of makeup is completely removed. I have a full review of this product here.

As I said in Part 1, I don't use a toner in the morning due to laziness but in the evenings I do and I use The Body Shop Aloe Calming Toner. This is one of those steps I never feel like I can notice the benefits from but it hasn't broken my skin out yet like most toners do so, so far so good.

Since my skin is dehydrated I have started to use the Indeed Labs Hydraluron serum since this helps to increase skin hydration and help you get the most out of your moisturiser. I will be doing a full review of this product soon too so I won't go into any more detail about this product other than to say that I think it is an amazing and has completely helped my skin become a lot more soft and smooth.

After letting the serum soak in for a few minutes I go in with my eye cream, the Yes To Carrots Moisturising Eye Cream for Normal to Dry Skin and apply this with my ring finger under my eyes and on my eyelids and I follow up with the Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturiser. I have a full review coming of this product on Wednesday so stay tuned for that.

Like in the morning, my last step is to apply the balance me rose otto intensive lip salve to help nourish my lips and keep them moisturised.

And there we are, after two rather wordy posts my skincare routine is done. The only things I am missing from my routine, both am and pm, is a day moisturiser with an SPF of 15 or higher, as mentioned in Part 1 and a face scrub. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

All About Skincare: Part 1

Skincare Products

Skincare Products
Over the last few months I have really got into skincare and I have realised the importance of a routine that uses products perfect for my skin type. Back in June I went to my local Lloyds Pharmacy to buy a cleanser. At the time I thought my skin type was combination so I was eyeing up a cleanser from La Roche-Posay designed for combination skin. As I was unsure whether I should get it I asked one of the staff to help me pick one out and she mentioned that they had a free skincare analysis service where they tested 4 different things to do with your skin to identify what skin type you have: Hydration, sebum, pH and elasticity.  After being tested for these things it turned out my skin was dry and dehydrated, quite different to what I originally thought. They give some suggestions as to the type of products I should be using so after this I decided to alter some of the products in my routine and up the moisturising and hydrating products.

This leads me on to my skincare routine and since things are going to get wordy I am going to tell you about my morning skincare routine today and then tomorrow I will tell you all about my evening skincare routine.

I like to start the day by cleansing my skin with the Simple Kind To Skin Moisturising Facial Wash. I blend it into damp skin in circular motions, wash it off with a flannel and then gently towel dry my skin. My skin is always left feeling really clean after using this and it doesn't feel drying or leave my skin feeling tight like a lot of cleansers can do. I follow this up with the Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser just to help add a bit more moisture to my skin. I did a full review of this product here if you want to know more about it.

In the morning I generally can't be bothered to use a toner, I probably should but I'm usually feeling pretty lazy and tired in the morning so I like to keep things quite minimal, step wise, instead I skip straight to eye cream. The one I have been using recently is the Origins GinZing eye cream and it is a relatively new product in my routine but I have really enjoyed using it. I want to wait and do a full review of it when I have been using it for a substantial amount of time before I say that it has really helped my dark circles but it feels very good on the skin and leaves my eye area feeling nice and moisturised. Also it has a slightly pink tint to it to help hide those pesky dark circles.

My final steps in the morning are moisturiser and lip balm. I'm not completely happy with the products I am currently using for this step. I like to use SPF in the morning to help protect my skin but ideally I want an SPF which is 15 or more. However at the moment I am using the Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Moisture Cream with SPF 10 mixed with the Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser. It's not ideal but it is better than nothing I guess. For lip balm I use the balance me rose otto intensive lip salve to prep my lips for any lip product I am going to apply later and to prevent my lips from chapping.

If you have any suggestions for a moisturiser which contains an SPF I would be really interested to know what they are.

Review || NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna

NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna

NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna
The NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna has been on my wishlist ever since I first started watching beauty videos on YouTube back in 2009/2010. Obviously at the age of 12/13 I didn't need bronzer, especially not one that costs £27. But when I was in America recently I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to finally add it to my collection since it would be a little cheaper than at home and I am so glad I did pick it up because it has now become a part of my everyday makeup routine.

Lets start with the packaging. Like all NARS products it is very sleek and simple which I love and the fact that there is a huge mirror on the inside is an added bonus because it makes the perfect compact mirror to carry in your bag and it is great when you are travelling.

In terms of the colour, it is the perfect shade for me. A lot of bronzers are too orange for my skin tone however this one is definitely not, it is the perfect colour for warming up my skin and giving it a bit of a healthy glow without making me look tangoed. Finish wise, there is a small amount of shimmer, however there is not a huge chunk of glitter in sight, and it makes your skin look a bit more glowing rather than muddy, like some matte bronzers do.

I typically apply this with the Real Techniques Blush Brush and apply it in a 3 shape, which subtly contours my face without looking too intense and makes application quick and easy.

Have you tried this bronzer before?

Weekly Wishlist || Space NK

Space NK has quickly become my favourite store over the past 6 months. It stocks a lot of brands which are hard to find in the UK and I could easily spend all day swatching every product in there so it only seemed appropriate to do a wishlist of some of the products that I currently have on my Space NK wishlist.
First up is the Kevin Aucoin Sculpting Powder. I have not got a lot of cheek bone definition and having pale skin can mean that regular bronzers can look a little unnatural when it comes to contouring but this slightly grey toned powder is supposed to create a more natural shadow effect. Since I don't like the look of obvious contouring this seems like the perfect product for me.

The NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is on my wishlist only because I don't own an eye primer and I have only heard positive things for this product. It prevents your eyeshadow from smudging and creasing and creates a really good base for all eyeshadow products.

Ahh Diptyque. First of all the packaging of all of their products is so pretty and simple. Secondly everything smells amazing. I'm not 100% sure which candle I would pick out of their collection, as there are so many to chose from but I do know that I really want one or two. Also as a plus, when they are all burned up you can use the glass container to store makeup brushes in, so you are basically getting a two in one product here right?

The Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray has been on my wishlist for quite a while but I just haven't had the confidence to part with £39 for just one full sized bottle. I do really want to try it because I can find that my hair lacks volume at the roots especially when is is freshly washed. I know there are cheaper alternatives out there but I have heard so many good things about this one that I feel like I have to try it out, even if I only buy the travel sized version!

The NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser has been put on a wishlist before but I still haven't bought it so I thought I would include it again today. I love light coverage products and for days when my skin only needs a light base product I feel this would be perfect for me. The other thing that makes me want this product is the wide range of shades available, so there should be a shade light enough for me, which a lot of other brands do not offer.

By Terry is a brand I have not tried anything from but their Ombre Blackstar cream eyeshadow sticks sound really good. I can't remember the colour I swatched in store the other day but I think it was Blond Opal and it looked like a really good everyday colour which could be worn alone or with other colours blended in. It also really appeals to me because I think it would be something that is easy and quick to apply so perfect for those mornings when you hit the snooze button one too many times.

I am not a major powder girl because I prefer a dewy finish rather than a matte one but from what I've heard about the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder it is not too mattifying. It is supposed to set your makeup without being too cakey or creating a completely matte finish, which seems perfect for me.

Finally is the yummiest smelling product of them all, the Laura Mercier Crème Brûlée Honey Bath. Oh my god this smells delicious. Every time I see it in any store I have to smell it because it is so amazing. I can imagine this would be the perfect pick me up bath product after a long day of school/work and I can imagine it would leave your bathroom smelling gorgeous for quite a while after you've used it. I definitely need this in my life!

What products do you love from Space NK?

NOTD: White Nails

Mavala White Nail Polish
Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed my Instagram feed has had numerous pictures of white painted nails and I have been curious to try this trend out myself. I have dabbled with white nail polish before but I haven't been sold. I always thought it looked a bit weird next to my pale skin and I thought that it just looks like I have painted my nails with Tipp-Ex. However I was keen to try it out again because I really liked the way it looked on everyone else. I found my only white nail polish, a polish from a Mavala French Manicure set my mum gave me years ago, and painted my nails and I was happy with the results. It didn't look too much like Tipp-Ex and it wasn't too ghostly against my skin. Although it probably won't become my go-to nail look, I really like the way it looks and and I am even tempted to buy a new white polish since my one is very gloopy and there isn't much left in the bottle (too many failed at-home French manicures have meant I am left with very little product!). All in all I am very impressed with this look and I think it is very fresh and pretty for the spring and summer months.

Have you tried this look out before?

What's In My Travel Makeup Bag #2

Its been almost a year since I wrote about what I take in my makeup bag when I travel so its definitely due an update. My makeup collection has changed quite a bit in the last year, and with that so has my travel makeup bag. Not only that, but I think I have narrowed it down to more of the actual necessities rather than the 'I'll try and squeeze as much makeup as I possibly can into one bag' kind of necessities.

The bag itself is one of those clear bags you get when you buy set of those small containers for putting your toiletries in when you travel. I decided to use a clear bag only because it would be easier to see where a product is rather than having to rummage around for ages trying to find that one mascara.

Ok makeup time. Recently I have been reaching for the Bourjois CC Cream as my base product because it is a light weight product on the skin and gives a gorgeous dewy finish. I may have gone a bit overboard with the concealers but only because they all do different things. I have two different shades of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, in Fair and Cool Medium, the Bourjois CC Eye Cream for covering under eye circles and the No7 Instant Radiance Concealer for brightening under the eyes. For powder I have gone for my all time favourite powder, the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder. The NARS Laguna Bronzer is probably my favourite bronzer I have ever used since it is very natural looking on my skin and helps to warm up my complexion, so of course that is in my makeup bag. And finally for face was the Bourjois Little Round Pot Blusher in Rose de Jaspe.

I've actually been quite controlled when it comes to eye products believe it or not because I have been known to bring several eyeshadow pallets with me on a week long holiday...yes I know, ridiculous! So for eyeshadows I've picked the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit and three MAC eyeshadows in Nylon, All That Glitters and a limited edition one called Night Manoeuvres. Eyeliner wise I've chosen a few different types, the Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner, MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Metallic Brass and GOSH Kohl Eyeliner in Black. For mascara I have one waterproof one, the Maybelline The Colossal, and two non-waterproof ones, Clinique High Impact Mascara and Maybelline The Falsies Flared, all of which are in black. For brows I have only got the Maybelline Master Shape Brow pencil in Dark Blonde and and clear mascara from 2True.

Finally lips, and I've got 4 options. For lipstick I have the Lancome L'Absolu Rouge in Rose Nu, a 'my lips but better' lip colour. I also have the Models Own Lip Balm in Tangerine, Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Gloss in Glorious Grapefruit and the Clinique Superbalm Moisturising Gloss in Grapefruit.

I hope you enjoyed having a peak inside my makeup bag. What products are always in your travel makeup bag?

Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser

Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser
Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser
My skincare routine has changed dramatically recently due to a sudden realisation as to the type of skin I actually have. I always thought my skin was combination when in reality I have dry, dehydrated skin. Quite different to what I first thought! I will do a more in-depth post about how I found out what my skin type was, so I won't go into too much detail today, however I thought I would tell you about a new product that I have been using recently as part of my skincare routine, the Avène Gentle Milk Cleanser.

I was told that a cleansing milk would help my skin out a lot since it will add moisture to it rather than strip the surface like some of the harsher foaming cleansers do. There were a few that caught my eye but I decided on this Avène one simply because I have wanted to try something from this brand for ages. It is quite rare that I just buy a product without reading some reviews about it before hand since I don't want to waste my money on a rubbish product, but I still went ahead and picked it up.

And I was not disappointed. After using it for a few days I could already notice that my skin looked more healthy and hydrated than it had before. Another bonus is that it is very straight forward to use, put one pump of it onto a cotton wool pad (or your fingers) and sweep all over your face blending it into the skin as you go and then its done! If I've been wearing makeup that day I tend to use a soap styled cleanser where I can wash off the product to make sure my makeup is full removed, but on bare faced days I can just use this cleanser.

At £11.50 from Boots it is not ridiculously expensive, especially as you get 200ml of product in each bottle, which will last for ages so I would definitely recommend picking this product up if you have dry skin like me, because it has helped my skin out a lot.

My In-flight Essentials

In-Flight Essentials
In-Flight Essentials

In-Flight Essentials

Having just come back from California (read about it here) and experiencing my first long haul flight I feel like I finally understand all of the beauty bloggers who always said face masks and intense moisturising creams were their in-flight essentials. Since I usually only go on 2-3 hour flights, my in-flight essentials normally consist of some sort of sweet food and a good magazine/book to read to pass the time. But before I went away I made sure to delve into my collection of mini skincare items and other bits and bobs to put together my in-flight essentials.

Skincare wise it is all about the moisturising. The low humidity inside of the planes means that the air takes the moisture from your skin to compensate, leaving your skin dehydrated. I already have dehydrated skin so I definitely have to remember to pack on the moisturisers when I'm in the air. My two favourite products are both from Clinique and are the Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief and the Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion. I apply these every couple of hours or so and my skin literally absorbs them so quickly that they disappear in seconds. The Simple Kind To Skin Moisture Boost Hydro Mist Spray is useful if you feel your skin needs extra hydration in between using the lotions and is really quick to use, so a bonus if you are feeling tired on a night flight. For a lip balm I like using the Balance Me Rose Otto Intensive Lip Salve as it is a very thick balm like product that really hydrates my lips and prevents them from chapping. And of course it is not only your face that will get dehydrated, your hands will too so I like to use the L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream all over my hands and up onto my arms as well.

Moving on from skincare onto the the more random 'essential' items. Hand sanitizer is an absolute must to get rid of airport germs before applying any skincare products and also before eating and my favourite is the Soap and Glory Hand Maid. I also make sure to carry around a 4head stick in case I get a headache whilst on the plane, a nail file for that occasion when your nail half breaks and it keeps getting caught on your clothes and  some Bach Rescue Remedy for before the flight and during any turbulence to help relax me. The last thing is some eye drops because my eyes get really dry on the flight leaving me feeling tired when in reality I am wide awake.

What are your in-flight essentials?
