Review || Maybelline Contour Products

Review || Maybelline Contour Products
I love the contouring trend as someone with very little definition in the cheekbone area so, when I saw that Maybelline had a few contouring products I knew I had to try them out. The two products I picked up were the Master Contour V-Shape Contour Stick and the Master Sculpt Contour Powder. With very little in my collection in terms of contouring products I felt like these two would fill that little space in my makeup collection perfectly.

I am going to start with my favourite of the two products which is the contour stick. This is a really clever idea and is made up of two halves, one half is a pale highlight colour and the other is the perfect cool toned contour shade. The consistency is lovely and creamy and quite easily to blend, although I do find it can dry quite quickly so it is best to blend it in as you go. The shade that I have is Light and I find that the highlight shade is light enough, even on me, to act as a highlight shade and the contour shade is the perfect cool, grey toned shade which is exactly what I look for in a contour shade. And even though it is a more grey toned shade, it doesn't make your skin look ashy. I find that the lasting power is relatively good, and it lasts longer if I pair this with the powder product over the top.

I also have the powder in the lightest shade, Light Medium and again, find this works really well even on my pale skin. The powder itself is a really nice consistency and I find it really easy to apply and blend out. I would say that the contour shade is not as cool toned as the contour stick i,s but I still find that I can contour with it, but it can also be used as more of a bronzer. The highlight shade is a lovely shimmery shade which adds that extra glow on the skin and although it is shimmery it isn't over the top. This product does come with a brush but I personally wouldn't use this as it is a little bit scratchy and I don't think it would apply the product very well.

Have you tried these contouring products before? What other contouring products do I need to try?

Summer Holiday Wishlist

It dawned on me the other day that I go on holiday in a few weeks time and I haven't really done a proper summer shopping spree as I haven't really needed shorts or summer dresses up until now. So in preparation for a lot of money going out of my bank account I thought I would share with you today some of the things I think I will pick up soon so that my wardrobe is summer holiday ready!

What is on your wishlist at the moment?

Review || L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation

Review || L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation
When the L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation first came out I was really intrigued by it. I know it isn't a new idea but if I am honest I hadn't ever really noticed any of the other cushion foundations currently available on the market. So, when I was in Boots about a month ago, I saw it on the L'Oreal stand and thought I would pick it up to try it out, not only because I was interested in how it worked but also I had already heard a lot of really good reviews and was desperate to try it out.
Review || L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation
First of all, the packaging is really great. Not only is it quite aesthetically pleasing, but it would also be great if you are travelling because you won't have to worry about anything breaking or any spillages. Another great thing is that there is a decent sized mirror in the lid, so again, great for when you are travelling or for touch-ups on the go. The only thing I probably won't ever use is the applicator that it comes with. It is a very thin sponge-like applicator which I'm sure could work but I much prefer applying this with a brush like the Real Techniques Stippling Brush or the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
Review || L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation
In terms of the shade, there is one pale enough, even for me which I really like because so many drugstore brands don't go pale enough for us supper pale people. It also doesn't turn orange on the skin which is another bonus, as so many other foundations do tend to oxidise slightly.
Review || L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation
The coverage is described as buildable and I would agree. I like the fact that you can change the coverage every single day, depending on what you need. It applies a really thin layer to the skin initially and this can be layered up a few more times if necessary, to add a little extra coverage without looking heavy or cakey. In my opinion, although it is labelled as a foundation it is much more like a tinted moisturiser/BB cream in terms of coverage. It also has a really lovely dewy finish so looks really lovely on the skin and it doesn't cling to dry patches like so many other foundations do.

Have you tried this foundation before? What did you think?

Summer Products

Summer Products
So apparently it is currently summer, I mean what says summer like it chucking it down with rain everyday, am I right? But with the potential of some sunnier, warmer days (or a holiday to a sunny destination) I wanted to share with you today some of my favourite products that I think are perfect for warmer weather.
Summer Products
HAIR
As someone with frizzy hair, hair serums and oils are essential all year round, but especially when humidity is high, as it can be in the summer. My two favourites at the moment are the Garnier The Sleek Restorer Oil and the OGX Hydrating Macadamia Oil Dry Styling Oil. Both of these product smell amazing and work really well on both wet and dry hair, so I use one of them after washing and then after I have styled my hair as well.

Another hair product that I have been really liking recently is the Toni and Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray. I like using this when I plait my hair in the evening before bed, to help the waves form a little better and then after I take them out in the morning to help the waves have a little more hold and keep them in place for longer.

Summer Products
MAKEUP
For base products, if it is really hot or I am spending the day by the pool or the beach I will skip base products completely, but for when I do want to wear something on my face I will always choose a lightweight product, something like the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue (could I mention this product anymore times?!) or the L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation. Both of these are really lightweight on the skin so you won't feel like you are wearing any makeup and they both have a lovely finish that leaves your skin looking really natural and as if you are not wearing any makeup at all.

I also swear by cream products for the summer months as I think that they sit a little better on the skin and have a bit of a lighter, dewier finish to the skin. Some of my current favourites are the Collection Speedy Highlighter in Pearly Sheen, the No7 Pop & Glow in Classic Rose and the Maybelline Master Contour V-Shape in Light. With these three products you have blush, highlighter and bronzer/contour.

In terms of eye makeup, waterproof mascara is an essential. I don't have too many in my collection (so any recommendations are welcome) but the one that I do love is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara. This is the perfect volumising and lengthening mascara that really is waterproof and smudge-proof. I used this last year on my holiday in Spain and it didn't budge, even after going swimming.

So there are my go-to summer products. What do you love for the summer months?

What Blogging Has Taught Me

From the 3 years that I have been blogging I feel like I have learnt a few things that I never would have, had I not started this blog, or wouldn't have learnt about them until a little later in my life. So today I thought that I would share with you some of the things I have learnt from blogging.

1. HOW TO USE A DSLR CAMERA
I don't think that I would have ever learnt how to use a DSLR camera if I hadn't started a blog because before I started blogging I wasn't really that interested in photography. But since starting my blog I am really interested in it and always looking for cameras that I would like and the lens to go with them. I now know how to brighten my photos with my camera and the difference between the manual and automatic settings on the camera.

2. HOW IMPORTANT SOCIAL MEDIA IS IN TODAY'S WORLD
With everyone being a bit Internet obsessed (me included!) social media has become one of the best ways to get your content out there. Without Twitter and Instagram I don't think blogging would be as big as it is because it would be a lot harder to spread the word about your blog. I love using social media for my blog and don't think I could blog without it!

3. HOW IMPORTANT IT IS NOT TO COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS
This one is probably one of the harder parts of blogging because it can be hard sometimes not to compare yourself to other bloggers, especially the really well known ones. But in this industry, like many others, there will always be someone who takes photos a little better than you do, who has more followers than you do and but that doesn't mean that your blog isn't great and sometimes we need to remember that we don't need to be comparing ourselves to everyone else all of the time.

4. TWITTER CHATS ARE AT THE SAME TIME A LOT OF FUN AND VERY STRESSFUL
I absolutely love a good twitter chat, especially the #fblchat and the #bbloggers chat but oh my god are these stressful. There are just so many tweets that you find yourself constantly refreshing your page and trying to keep up with the chat and this can be challenging sometimes. Another thing about blogger chats (especially #bbloggers) is that you will come out of the chats with a shopping list as long as your arm of new products you just *need* in your life. If you're on a spending ban, don't take part in these chats as it will be too hard not to spend money afterwards!

5. EVERYTHING REMOTELY AESTHETICALLY PLEASING NEEDS TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED FOR EITHER BLOG OR INSTAGRAM PURPOSES (OR BOTH!)
Although I don't do this all of the time, it is something I do find myself doing from time to time. A pretty looking restaurant with equally gorgeous food? That will be Instagrammed. A pretty landscape/city? That will definitely need a photo, you know, for blog purposes. And if you see a pretty looking piece of homeware like a marble dish, well that has to be bought for blog photography purposes...

I hope you enjoyed reading about the things I have learnt through blogging. Is there anything else that you have learnt from blogging that I haven't mentioned?

Review || Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit has been on my 'To-Review' list since I received it for Christmas but, since my blog had to be neglected in favour of school work, I never got around to reviewing it. Even though this product was a limited edition product and I don't believe that it is still available (although it still says in-stock on the Liberty's website, so you might be in luck), I still wanted to review it as, only one of the powders is not available as a single product, and it was too beautiful not to dedicate an entire post to!
First of all, the top row is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders, which I think might be my favourite part of this palette. From left to right there is Dim Light, a pale gold-beige shade, Iridescent Light, the only new shade, a slightly pink shimmery shade, and Diffused Light (my favourite) which is a slightly yellow toned shade. I love using these powders to set my makeup, to add a really subtle highlight or to add on top of a cream highlight to set it in place and to add a little more shimmer.

Below the powders are two blush shades, Mood Exposure, a light plum shade and Luminous Flush, a pink blush with gold mixed in. I love both of these blushes as they are such gorgeous shades, perfect for both day and night and they are also incredibly pigmented, so a little goes a really long way.

The final product is the bronzer shade, Luminous Bronze Light, the perfect bronzer shade for adding a bit of extra glow to your skin and is the lighter of the two bronzer shades, so even works for those of us who have pale skin. Like the blushes, it has a marble pattern so has a light and dark shade of bronzer mixed together which creates a really gorgeous colour. Again like the blushes, it is really pigmented so a light hand is needed to avoid being too bronzed.
All of these powders last really well on the skin and have a gorgeous glowy finish which is prefect for those of us who love to have really glowy makeup. I would highly recommend these powders and I will probably be buying some more shades of the blush and maybe even the powders!

Have you ever tried any of the Hourglass powder products?

My Top 5 Favourite Healthy Recipes

My Top 5 Favourite Healthy Recipes
As much as I love eating pizza, ice cream and cake, I do like to try to eat as healthily as possible as much as possible. Some days I am more successful than others at this but I do try. To help me eat healthily I love looking at healthy eating blogs and also buying cookbooks from my favourite food bloggers. So today I thought I would share with you my top 5 favourite healthy recipes that I recommend you trying some time soon.
My Top 5 Favourite Healthy Recipes
These are my go-to snack, especially when I am out and about because not only are they really easy to make but they are very delicious. I can make a batch of these and they can easily last me a week and half and I can have them whenever I am craving something chocolatey/sweet without the guilt afterwards.

A slightly newer recipe that I have tried but oh my god are these amazing. I think I could safely say these are the yummiest chocolate cookies I have ever had and I much prefer them to any other ones that I have tried. Not only are they gluten free, but they are also refined sugar free and dairy free so perfect for those you are trying to avoid those things as much as possible. I love the dark chocolate in these, but if you don't like dark chocolate you could easily swap it with a chocolate that you do like.
My Top 5 Favourite Healthy Recipes
I absolutely love regular, shop bought, chocolate hobnobs and could quite easily eat them all day long. So I thought it would be a good idea to find a slightly healthier version, so I can still enjoy them but not feel like they are really bad for me. I came across this recipe from Eat Drink Live Well and I have to say they are delicious. They are not identical to the originals but they are a pretty good alternative to the original biscuits and are a great way to satisfy your chocolate cravings with a healthy biscuit.
My Top 5 Favourite Healthy Recipes
This is a recipe from Ella's book, Deliciously Ella, and I have made this particular recipe the most out of all of the recipes in that book. It is the perfect meal to make in bulk and put in the freezer and then take out when you need a meal quickly. I also loved taking this to college with me as my lunch as you can heat it up in the morning and put it in a flask to keep it warm throughout the day. It is really filling and I think I actually prefer this to the meat version of chilli.

These Halloween cookies are probably my favourite of all of the recipes I have included in this post. If you like coconut, you will love these. Again they are refined sugar free, dairy free and gluten free so perfect for various different diets and taste like little bits of coconut heaven. I made these a lot over Christmas and made them into little star shapes so they are not exclusive to Halloween and can be enjoyed at any time of the year.

I hope you enjoyed a slightly different post from me today. What are your favourite healthy recipes?

Glowy Makeup Products

I absolutely love glowy, dewy makeup so there is no surprise that I have quite a few products in my makeup collection that can help me create this look. Because I love this look so much I have decided to dedicate an entire blog post to it. In this post I have included base products, highlighter products and also eye products to create a really glowy look all over.
Glowy Makeup ProductsLet's start with base products. Recently I have been loving mixing the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue and the Simple Illuminating Radiance Cream together to create a super glowy, dewy finish. The bareMinerals Complexion Rescue is perfect on its own and leaves the skin looking really natural and with the Illuminating Radiance Cream it adds even more glow to your skin without looking glittery at all.
Glowy Makeup Products
For powder products I absolutely love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders in Dim Light, Iridescent Strobe Light and Diffused Light. They are great for setting your makeup into place without mattifying your skin. Another favourite is an old favourite which is the Clinique Blushing Blush Powder in Iced Lotus. This adds a bit of highlight at the same time as adding a blush to the skin so it acts as a bit of a two in one product.
Glowy Makeup Products
For highlight products I adore the highlight shade in the Sleek Contour Kit in Light. It is a lovely pink toned highlighter with a tiny bit of shimmer running through it without being glittery or overly shimmery. I also love the Collection Speedy Highlighter in Pearly Sheen. As a cream product this is really easy to apply and blend into the skin and is another beautiful pink toned highlighter, which is perfect for everyday use.
Glowy Makeup Products
I am a much bigger fan of shimmery eyeshadow products than I am of matte shadows. Firstly are two of my MAC eyeshadows, one being All That Glitters, which is a gorgeous pink toned, neutral, shimmery eyeshadow and the second one being Nylon. which was actually my first MAC eyeshadow and is perfect for adding highlight to the inner corner of your eye and also to the brow bone. Another brilliant product is the By Terry Ombre Blackstar. I have them in Blond Opal and Misty Rock and again these are perfect for adding a glowy, shimmery finish to your eyelid.

What are your favourite glowy makeup products?

June Favourites 2016

It's monthly favourites time again and although June was a very busy month for me with exams I still have quite a few favourites to share with you, and whilst many wouldn't bother with makeup during the exam period, applying makeup is something that I find relaxing (unless I'm applying winged eyeliner, there is nothing relaxing about that!) so putting on my makeup was a good way to start my day. So here are my favourites for the month of June.
This has been a favourite of mine since last summer and it is the perfect base for the summer months or for days when you don't want to wear too much makeup. Personally, I am not a fan of heavy coverage products as I prefer a more natural look on the skin, and this product does just that. Not only does it look super natural on the skin, but it also leaves your skin looking really glowy and healthy. I have been wearing this most days recently and feel like my skin looks so much better with this on than without it.

To go along with the glowy, dewy theme, I have been using this highlighter pretty much every single day for the past month and I cannot get enough of it. It is the perfect way to add a little extra glow without looking too glittery or shiny! I find it to be relatively long lasting as well and works really nicely with paler skin tones as it is slightly pink toned.

Another cream product, but this time in blush form. This colour is perfect for a subtle look, but is very buildable. It is also perfect for travelling as it is much less likely to shatter in your makeup bag, unlike powder products. It is really easy to apply and blend out onto the skin and being a cream product it makes it perfect for the summer months and will definitely be coming with me on my summer holidays this year.
Although I am not sure if this is still available, I still wanted to include it in this post as I have been reaching for this all of the time recently. Not only is it a stunning looking palette but it also houses 6 amazing powder products. My most used are probably the bronzer shade (Luminous Bronze Light) and then Dim Light for a really subtle highlight and also to set my under eye concealer and to add an extra bit of brightness.

I get dry lips from time to time and the one product I always come back to is this Nuxe lip balm. It is one of the only products that I find really moisturises my lips and it also smells delicious, which is always a plus. I have been using this a lot recently, especially after going on a plane as I find it really helps add moisture back into my lips.

Although I have only included a few of the set in the pictures above, I have been using all of the brushes from the set recently and I absolutely love them for applying my eye makeup. They are really soft and apply makeup really well and are absolutely gorgeous, which is not an essential but it definitely helps!

So, these are my current favourites, What have you been loving recently?

Review || Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Eye Set Vol. 2

Review, Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Eye Set Vol. 2, Zoeva, Makeup Brushes
Zoeva brushes had been on my wishlist for so long after reading so many amazing reviews about them on various different blogs, so when I received the Rose Golden Complete Eye Set Vol. 2 for Christmas I was over the moon. It is every stereotypical beauty bloggers dream brush set (it is rose gold for starters!) and honestly I don't think I will ever need another eye brush ever again as this set has every eye brush you would ever need.

This brush set includes 12 rose gold/pink eye brushes and come in at £65, which is just over £5 per brush, which I think is incredible considering the quality of these brushes. They also come in a really cute little rose gold makeup bag which is perfect for fitting all of your brushes in for when you are travelling, or for storing them in on a daily basis. And even though there are quite a few brushes, I have used every single one of them on multiple occasions and they make applying eye makeup an absolute dream. They are very high quality and I now favour using these brushes over my MAC ones simply because they apply makeup a lot better and are so soft on the skin.
Review, Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Eye Set Vol. 2, Zoeva, Makeup Brushes
Starting from left to right from the top picture:

325 LUXE BROW LIGHT
This is the perfect brush, as the name suggests for highlighting your brow bone. It is a relatively large brush and can also be used for packing on eyeshadow to the lid as well as to the brow bone.

142 CONCEALER BUFFER
This is a great brush for blending in concealer on the face and around the eye area. It is a very dense brush and I love using this with thicker concealer products as I find it blends them in really seamlessly into the skin.

322 BROW LINE
I would say this is probably my most used from the set as I use this pretty much everyday to fill in my eyebrows. I find this brush is lot softer than other angled brushes which means it is a lot easier to achieve a natural looking brow. Although I haven't used this brush for gel liner I am sure it would work pretty well for that too and would probably be great for doing winged eyeliner.

232 LUXE CLASSIC SHADER
This brush is perfect for packing on a lot of colour onto the lids. It can also be used to apply eyeshadow under the brow bone, like the Luxe Brow Light.

221 LUXE SOFT CREASE
Personally, I don't use this for my crease, and instead use this as more of a blending brush. However as a blending brush this is perfect. It allows you to get rid of harsh lines in your eyeshadow without ruining your entire look or smudging your shadow too much.

228 LUXE CREASE
Again, I tend to use this as more of a blending brush than a crease brush as it is just a bit too fluffy for a crease brush, just like the Luxe Soft Crease. It is very similar in shape to the Luxe Soft Crease and is just as a amazing at blending out eyeshadow.

235 CONTOUR SHADER
This is my current favourite brush to apply or blend out cream eyeshadows. The bristles on this brush are more synthetic than those on some of the other brushes in the set so work really well with cream eyeshadows. You can also use this brush to add a more dramatic crease to really contour your eyes.

230 LUXE PENCIL
This is one of those brushes that has been missing from my collection for so long and I am so glad I now own a pencil brush. It is perfect for applying eyeshadow along the lower lash line and also to apply shadow as liner along the upper lash line. I also like using this to blend out pencil liner so that it isn't so perfect looking and has a more smokey look.

238 LUXE PRECISE SHADER
Another great brush for applying eyeshadow as liner on the upper lash line. I also really love this to apply a bit of a highlight shade to the inner corner of my eye as it is so tiny it is perfect for this part of your eye.

310 SOFT LINER
This, as the name suggests is an eyeliner brush. I really like to use this with gel liner and since the brush is so tiny it allows you to create a really thin line along your lash line. It can also be easily used to create a winged liner look as well.

231 LUXE PETIT CREASE
This is pretty much a slightly bigger version of the Luxe Pencil brush and is really great for creating a cut crease or a more defined crease look.

227 LUXE SOFT DEFINER
This brush really reminds my of the MAC 217 brush and is pretty much identical. I love this for putting eyeshadow in my crease and it is also a great blending brush.

After trying these brushes I have already added even more Zoeva brushes to my wishlist including the Rose Golden Vol.2 101 Luxe Face Definer Brush and the Rose Golden Vol.2 109 Luxe Face Paint Brush, so maybe an order will happen soon...

Have you tried these Zoeva brushes?

Back to Blogging and Life Lately

So it has been a while hasn't it... This part of the Internet has been rather quite for most of this year due to school work taking priority, which I didn't necessarily want to do but I knew that my exams were more important than posting regular content. But with A levels now finished I currently have the whole summer off and so more time for blogging. So between working and socialising I am planning to get back into blogging and really fall in love with it all over again.

Other than exams and endless hours spent at my desk revising I haven't really been up to too much. I recently got back from a little trip to Amsterdam and I once again fell in love with the city and am already looking forward to going back again, whenever that will be. I am also going away a few more times in the summer and I am looking forward to getting some sun as it hasn't really appeared much over here.

In terms of my blog, I am hoping that I can keep roughly to my schedule that I have planned for the summer, so we can only hope there will be plenty of posting over on these parts over the next few months and hopefully a bit of variety in terms of topics, so expect more than just makeup and beauty posts (even though those are probably my favourite to write).

So thank you for sticking around even without the posts and I am looking forward to having more time to dedicate to my blog over the next few months.

Chloe
